This photo is taken from the first large pull off going south on the Foothills Parkway from Hwy 321 near Townsend, Tn. This location offers a nice sunrise view but beware of lights in the valley and expect big crowds during the spring from all the photo seminar groups who are in the park to take advantage of the great wildflower bloom. There were probably 200 photographers in this parking lot on the morning this shot was taken. Arrive early to get a prime spot.

One of the finest stream scenes in the entire park can be found above the Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont just a few hundred yards downstream from the parking area at the end of the vehicle roadway. It can be easily photographed from the road.

Stream scene from a bridge in the Tremont area. Watch for cars, the bridges are very narrow.

Purple phacelia grows in abundance at the trail head across from the parking area at the Y...321 coming from Townsend where it intersects with River Road.

Trout lily on the grotto Falls trail.

Detail shot of Grotto Falls...The falls is in full sun until pretty late in the day. We were there around 4:00 pm. Grotto is accessible via a moderate hike from the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.

This fall is a couple of hundred yards below Grotto. I thought it was much more photogenic and not as harshly lit at the same time of afternoon.

Isolated on a very small section of a frozen stream on Hwy 441 about 1/2 mile toward Gburg from the Morton Overlook. There were limitless opportunities for tight shots but this was one of my favorites. This image was captured during Wilderness Wildlife Week in Jan. 2008.
