The dunes are rather flat when the sun is overhead, but as the angle changes the character of the dunes with all the folds, furrows, ridges and valleys becomes much more apparent.
Families play in the stream, adventurous souls climb the dunes and old guys (that's me) photograph from the sidelines...lots to do at Great Sand Dunes National Park!!
Water and wind deposit and mold the dunes into an infinite variety of shapes.
This trio apparently decided that shirts on their heads were preferable to shirts on their backs. With all that heavy coarse sand blowing at 40+mph I'll bet they won the award for smoothest (and most painful) skin when they got back to their room that night as well.

Rita and I waited and watched as the sun moved ever so slowly into position to create these shadows.
Interior of the church at San Luis...playing around with conversion to B&W in NIK SEP then selective colorization in PS6 at varying opacities...window and flag are at 100%, pews and wall plaques at about 40% and then the overall scene at about 20%
